Aloha Mr. Billman, thank you very much for your feedback. I was able to call the store and review your visits. We see you did your safety inspection on 5/2/2024 where the inspection failed for registration, where you then have 30 days to correct and then return to where a re-inspection charge would not be applied (if completed within the 30 days). We see you returned today (6/4/2024) to complete the safety inspection which was 2 days out of the 30-day window, thus the re-inspection charge was applied (which is how the law is written and when the inspection charge should be applied again). When we called the store to review, we also found out that your vehicle needed the front license plate installed so the required front plate could be installed. Unfortunately, the bumper needed to have the mounting holes drilled so the bracket could be mounted (which we won't do since the customer may not approve of the exact location and how the plate was mounted (which had occurred in the past.) We hear that you left and got the plate mounted then returned to complete your inspection, but when you did, they store's waiting appointment inspections were backed up thus it took some time to complete your inspection... which (understandably) added to your frustration! Sadly, shops on the Windward side have stopped doing the inspections thus the shops that do tend to get very busy with them, especially at the end and the beginning of each month! When you email, please also share any additional feedback you may like to share (that we may not be aware of after reading the above). Sadly, we know Hawaii's Safety Inspection rules can be a pain, especially when folks are moving to Hawaii. But, we are required to stick with the rules (laws) so we don't get fined or even loose our safety inspection license. That said, could wave the re-charge fee on your visit today since we did note have to re-inspect the entire vehicle (we just needed to verify the new plates were installed and review the new registration).
