Took my vehicle in yesterday for an evaluation and determination if a repair was needed for an unknown sound in my engine compartment. After evaluation, it was determined that I needed a water pump replacement. When I asked "will that fix the problem" the consultant responded "let's start there". My concern with that was the proposed bill was over $900. I informed the consultant that I'd like to take some time to think about it before decided to pay a larger amount of money. I was also concerned with his statement of "let's start there", to me that told me they didn't know. So after taking some time to think about it, I decided to take it in for a second opinion to a shop that specializes in water pump replacement. I showed them the estimate I received from Lex Brodies that identified all the work they wanted to do. This new mechanic evaluated my water pump and informed me that it was "definitely not the water pump". This new mechanic was able to identify my problem which was the alternator and will be replacing it for me. When I asked this mechanic "what if he replaces the alternator and its not the alternator?" He responded, "then we put back the alternator at no charge and re-evaluate for the problem." This was not an option given to me by Lex Brodies. While I understand and appreciate the efforts made by the Lex Brodies staff, I am disappointed that they would be willing to charge me more than $900 for something they weren't sure would fix the problem. I simply wanted the problem fixed.
