Safety inspection- called and made an appointment and was told it’d be from 8-9:30. Showed up @ 8:00 and they told me to give them until 11:00. I waited and they came and got me from their waiting room around 9:15. I ended up failing my safety due to no third brake light. Looked it up on Hawai’i DOT website and it says I only need two. Overall the people were very nice. This is my first experience where the safety inspection took so long and was frustrating to hear that it could’ve taken until 11:00. Which would’ve been double the time I was told over the phone. EDIT: thank you for taking the time and addressing my review so promptly! I adjusted my rating. Based on customer service alone you guys are great.
Aloha Alex, Thank you very much for your feedback. Please note, when you look at the DOT safety inspection law, when you look at the Department of Transportation Chapter 19-133.2-32 (b) (1) states "Any required lamp or reflector (See Exhibit A)..." at that point, we need to go to "Exhibit A"! When you go to "Exhibit A", you see on page 5 in the bottom section "Additional Lamp(s) required on ALL Passenger Cars and on MPVS, Trucks and Buses..." then it's listed "High mounted stop lamp". The exception is on older vehicles before the DOT requirement was passed to add the third brake light (1968 or 1970, i would need to look that up!) Please send us your email to [email protected] and we can send your DOT code copies. Please note, if a shop passes your inspection, knowingly with a failed 3rd brake light, they can lose their license and get fined (and there are even more serious possible disciplinary options for the inspector and to the station owner). If we inspect the vehicle and see it's failed for an item detailed by the DOT, we need to fail the inspection. It's part of the law we are required to follow. Please send your email and we'll share the code as soon as possible! Thank you very much for sharing your concerns so we could look into for you!
